In honor of National Pork Month and National Book Month, celebrated in October, AMVC employees nominated their local libraries to receive a monetary donation and several non-fiction pig books to add to their community library. The donation will be utilized for additional books, educational programing or increasing materials within the library at the chosen library’s discretion.

AMVC employees nominated their local libraries to receive a monetary donation and several non-fiction pig books from AMVC to add to their local library’s shelves. Shelbi Dugan, sow farm manager at AMVC Round Barn in Rochester, nominated the Akron Carnegie Public Library as this library is utilized by her, her employees and their families.

“Ever since I was in elementary school, this library has been a place I’ve enjoyed learning at; it is a staple in the community. I'm very passionate about the pork and agriculture industry, and proud to help our local library get educational books to teach young minds about agriculture,” shared Dugan, who has been employed with AMVC for the past five years.
The Akron Carnegie Public Library and Linden-Carnegie Public Library were among the libraries nominated in Indiana from across the AMVC system.

National Pork Month and National Book Month promote sharing stories and the donation of non-fiction pig books aims to share the story of pig farming with the local community. Adding these books to the library will provide children with farm resources to learn about modern agriculture. The books share stories about how pig farmers raise and care for their pigs, a visit to a pig farm and the role veterinarians have in helping famers raise pigs.

“Community libraries provide many opportunities for families and their children to learn more about new topics through books and educational programs” says Alicia Humphrey, AMVC public relations coordinator, “At AMVC we strive to keep our local communities prospering by recognizing and investing in the activities community members and our employees enjoy.”
