Dr. Gavin YagerYager joins AMVC Veterinary Services

By Jill Christensen

AUDUBON - Dr. Gavin Yager, native of Audubon, recently joined the staff at Audubon Manning Veterinary Clinic.

Yager, who was born and raised in Audubon, did his undergraduate and veterinary medicine studies at Iowa State University.  Yager worked for AMVC in one of their sow units in high school and continued working with swine while at ISU, as he was employed in a swine research lab.

Following graduation, he spent four years in a mixed animal practice in northwest Iowa where he tended to large and small animals, focusing primarily on cattle, swine, horses and small ruminant animals like goats and sheep.

"Swine and cattle are probably my two focus areas," he said.

Yage started at AMVC on Feb. 17 and says that all is going very well.

"I definitely hit the ground running," he stated.  "Dr. Blomme and I did an orthopedic surgery on a dog with a broken leg last week.  Typically that would have been sent out to Ames on referral, but we decided to give it a try and I feel really good about how it turned out.  And I'm already on call this week, so I've jumped right in with both feet!"

Yager and his wife, Katie have two sons, ages four and one and are thrilled to be back "home," in Audubon.

"I'm very glad to be back home," Yager stated.  "I'm excited to be closer to family."

The staff at AMVC invites the public to stop out and welcome Yager to the practice and back to the community.
