AMVC Management Services recently graduated ten employees from their Leadership Development Program. This year’s class was comprised of employees in farm manager, assistant manager and swine specialist positions.

AMVC’s Leadership Development Program (LDP) was created in 2015 to develop the next generation of leaders and to give employees a program to propel their career within AMVC. These individuals were selected to be in the program based on their drive to be in a management position within the company.

The graduating class came into the program with a range of swine experience and a desire to be a better leader. The class included individuals from AMVC managed farms hailing from four different states.

The Leadership Development Program helped me grow my confidence and has pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and build relationships that have improved my abilities as a manager,” commented Jake Aberg, a graduate from Yale, Iowa.

The graduates attended bimonthly educational session in Audubon, Iowa, to expand their technical and leadership skills. They experienced time in the classroom and on-farm with company experts to allow for in-depth discussions and explanations. The group did walk throughs at sow farms, grow-finish farms, truck wash and maintenance building.

Over the course of the last year, the leaders participated in a variety of activities to understand all facets of pig farming to better prepare themselves for future leadership roles. The group volunteered at the Iowa State Fair in the swine farrowing display, met with the National Pork Board and National Pork Producers Council and volunteered at Meals from the Heartland.

“It has been exciting to see the personal and professional growth this graduating class has shown over the past year. The class members are very dedicated to improving themselves and their farms. I look forward to seeing them continue to grow into great leaders at AMVC,” commented Nick Weihs, AMVC Director of Leadership Development.

This is AMVC’s fifth class to graduate. The next LDP class will begin in August 2020. AMVC Management Services is headquartered in Audubon, Iowa, and manages 149,500 sows across ten states.
