Area cattle producers are invited to attend an educational program at the Audubon Recreation Center on Thursday, January 24. AMVC Veterinary Services has lined up several speakers to share insights and certify cattle producers. The day will start with registration at 10 a.m. followed by the morning session at 10:30 a.m. The morning will be kicked off with Grant Crawford from Merck Animal Health speaking about managing cattle from weaning through finishing with regards to preconditioning and growth promotion. A complimentary lunch will be served at noon. Iowa State Extension Beef Specialist, Erika Lundy, will lead the afternoon session, Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) certification training. BQA certification is increasingly being encouraged, and in some cases required, by market outlets for finishing cattle, and this trend is expected to increase. The certification process includes a presentation followed by a written exam.

“This program is to benefit the area’s producers and we want them to take advantage of this opportunity as their schedule allows. We are looking forward to bringing everyone together to hear these knowledgeable guest speakers,” commented Dr. John Greving, AMVC veterinarian.

The BQA training will be held from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The Audubon Recreation Center is located at 703 Southside Ave, Audubon.

There is no charge to attend the educational day, but pre-registration is appreciated. Call AMVC Audubon Vet Clinic at 712.563.4201 to reserve a seat.
