Perhaps one of the largest advantages for Morton Buildings as it navigates through the 21st century at the top of the construction industry is its versatility. Morton constructs thousands of buildings every year and no project is too simple or too complex.

There’s no exception, even when a veterinary clinic chose Morton to build its home in early 2013.

Check out the AMVC Veterinary Clinic in Audubon, Iowa, a town of approximately 2,000 residents in western Iowa, equidistant between Des Moines and Omaha. The company also has a management division and nutritional services division based out of Audubon.

From Morton’s designBUILD team consisting of project managers, construction estimators, drafting technicians and construction coordinators, the expansive structure encompassing more than 17,000 square feet was completed shortly before Christmas of last year. This full-service mixed veterinary practice is home to five AMVC veterinarians, each with a unique area of focus.

“We had quite a time coming up with a floor plan that everyone was comfortable with,” AMVC Maintenance Director Scott Alt said. “(Our sales consultant) was very accommodating of our many changes and meeting schedules. Morton spent the better part of a day with the (design software), moving walls, changing hallways and room sizes until we were all comfortable with the floor plan.”

Built on a foundation wall at 75 feet wide and 222 feet long, the vet clinic features Morton’s complete trademark Energy Performer insulation package. Beige Hi-Rib steel sidewalls and stone wainscot are covered by a navy blue Hi-Rib steel roof.

The structure also includes five cupolas along the apex of the roof and a large covered porch protecting the clinic’s entryway. Insulated overhead doors were installed as well as steel and aluminum entry doors. The overhead doors, as large as 10 feet by eight feet, allow large vehicles to enter and exit the building.

On the inside, the building includes a retail area, kennels and a cattle working area. Offices, conference rooms, locker rooms and a garage are also available for the clinic’s staff.

“We had the opportunity to have three Morton crews working on our project at one time,” Alt added. “All of the crews were very professional and worked well together.”

With the veterinary clinic complete, AMVC is planning on constructing a Morton building for their new nutritional services office and distribution center.
