The annual tractor ride has been a local tradition for over a decade to kick off the Fourth of July celebration in Exira. This past Sunday, the sight of tractors could be seen across the county.

With the last weekend’s weather forecast, Dwain Thompson, one of the tractor ride organizers, commented he was nervous the weather was not going to allow the event to take place this year. However, the rain held off, and over 40 tractor riders made the trek across the county. Most tractor enthusiasts were from Audubon County, but a few participants traveled as far as Council Bluffs and Minden to join in on the fun.

The tractor ride started in Exira, routing the group west and then north toward Audubon. The first stop of the afternoon was at the AMVC Veterinary Clinic, where the riders got a brief tour of the AMVC buildings from Dr. Daryl Olsen, Dr. Bob Blomme, Dr. Gavin Yager and Nate Vorm. After the clinic visit, the riders took their tractors south to the AMVC Management Services office for lunch. Thompson added he was impressed with the presentation and tours and was appreciative of AMVC hosting.

The tractors then headed back to their starting point, traveling a few miles east and then south out of Audubon, returning to the east side of Exira.

The tractor ride was organized by Carol and Dwain Thompson, Gary and Carol Lea Rasmussen, Denny and Judi Nelson, Rich and Shirley Griffin and Roger and Verley Johnson.
