Successful Farming, a Meredith Corporation media outlet, has named AMVC to its top 25 U.S. Pork Powerhouses for 2014, ranking No.9 overall in pork production.

For the past 20 years Successful Farming has compiled the list. The sow numbers collected this year show that the top 25 U.S. producers own or manage about 3.3 million sows, which is a 3% gain over last year’s numbers. Successful Farming says that in 2014 pork producers saw record profits but were dealt a blow by PEDV, or porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, which caused loss to a number of herds nationwide.

Smithfield Foods/WH Group topped the list, with 887,000 head of sows, owned or managed by the Virginia based company. AMVC, headquartered in Audubon, garnered their top ten ranking with 110,000 head of sows owned or managed. Each of the top 25 pork producers maintained or added to their herds in the last year, increasing their total collective amount of sows from 3,179,850 in 2013 to 3,312,500 this year.

Dr. Jason Hocker of AMVC credits the growth and success of the company to its dedicated employees.

“At AMVC we have positioned ourselves as leaders in swine health, welfare and farming - allowing for continued growth.  This has been possible because of our outstanding employees that are dedicated to raising pigs and are passionate about agriculture and the fight against hunger.  Globally, pork is the most consumed protein source and we are excited to play our role in that supply,” he stated.
